Learn how to shape and decorate cupcakes with heart-shaped patterns for your loved one with these simple tips and decoration ideas. These hearty cupcakes make a perfect Valentine's Day gift, or for any special day where a little love is needed.

Full instructions and decoration ideas shown in the video.

What You Need:

  2. Wooden Spoon
  3. Ingredients (Butter, Sugar, Eggs, Flour, Baking Powder, Salt, Milk)
  4. Cupcake / Muffin Tray
  5. Paper Cases
  6. Tin Foil
  7. Icing
  8. Food Coloring
  9. Rolling Pin
  10. Heart Cutters

This tutorial focuses on the shaping and decoration of the cakes and not the ingredients or process of making the mixture.

Get the Mixture Ready

Use your favorite cake recipe and get the mixture ready.

Fill the Cupcake Pan Up

Insert the paper cupcake cases into the tray, and fill about half full with cake mixture. You can use pink or red cases if you prefer.

Make Tinfoil Balls

Take a strip of tin foil and roll it into a ball. If you're making twelve cupcakes like I did, you'll need twelve foil balls.

Wedge in the Foil to Make Heart Shapes

Hold back the paper case and tuck the foil ball between the tin and the case. Do this for all your cupcakes. This is how we form the heart shape.

Bake!

Once you've done this with all your cupcakes, place the tray carefully in the oven and bake as per your recipe.

Cool Them Down

Once they're baked, place them on a rack and let them cool.

Decorate Them into Valentine's Day Perfection

The final stage is to decorate them in any way you like. Be creative and see what you come up with. I used colored icing and different sized heart cutters.
